ECO422-ECONOMIC POLICY

COURSE: MODULE

TITLE: ECONOMIC POLICY

CODE: ECO422

SEMESTER:  H

INSTRUCTOR(S): A. Pappas (Adjunct Lecturer)

Aims and objectives

The course focuses on the challenges of economic policy in an open economy, depending on the objectives and priorities pursued, taking into account the economic constraints.

The challenges refer to the diagnoses of both macroeconomic imbalances and structural problems as well as the design and selection of appropriate policy measures. The key stake-holders and the economic, political, institutional, social and organizational factors that influence both the choice of policy measures and the possibilities of their effective implementation are highlighted.

Alternative policy options and measures for supporting growth and reducing unemployment are also considered. Last but not least the budget deficits, the public debt burden, the competitiveness of the economy and economic crises are also included to the analysis focusing on the Greek economy.
