Scope
Students are familiarized with the role of money in the economy, through the presentation of the theory of money, credit, financial institutions and monetary policy.


Contents
The technical features and the economic role of money. Definition and types of money. Modern types of money and payment systems. Purchasing power of money.
Analysis of the concepts of supply, demand and the equilibrium of money. Linkage of financial balance with the macro-economic balance. Concept and technical functions of credit.  Meaning and measurement of capital flows. Description of elements of the theory of loans. Economic concept, categories and characteristics of securities. Meaning and characteristics of portfolios. Elements of the portfolio theory.  Concept and role of credit mediation. Categories of credit institutions and banks. Banking operations and money supply.  The objectives of economic policy and the role of the monetary policy. Means of monetary policy. Meaning of monetary targets. Evaluation of the effectiveness of monetary policy.
